what I code, I write about. what I write about, I code. good mix eh?
So, where to start. Ok. Let’s not make this long. I’m a programmer. I code for a living. I work for a company. Apparently with the advent of the twitter list cloud you see to the right of this blog (available depending on temperament of the code), there’s no real hiding who I work for… the implications are just too blatant. I’ve been an “internal” blogger at IBM for a good few years and have finally taken the plunge to do some writing outside of the firewall. Being sheltered internally, there’s a lot of new things to learn out here: wordpress, PHP, managing my public identity and so on. Life is a bit different out here.
I’ll probably be writing about technology topics and other “issues of concern” in the tech world. And some random crap that comes to mind. Who knows. Some items will be cross posted from internally, so that should be interesting managing and scrubbing that stream to make it allowable outside. I tend to write about code heavy topic internally, especially those centered around data service development (in Java) which is my focus area. I’ve also spent time working with virtual worlds like Second Life (both the public grid and the new internal Enterprise) and have guildmastered for our internal Virtual Universe Community (of which the LinkedIn branch is here). A few of us also run our own grassroots internal HackDay efforts in our spare times. So far counting 7 events.
So we’ll have to see what of those are appropriate for here.
Our internal blogging platform is substantially different from what we have here, so I’ll be enjoying trying my hand at hacking away at this thing to make it a little more customized to my tastes. For now, it’s rather plain jane and will probably stay that way till I can get myself a chunk of time to do better… which apparently is never nowadays so we’ll have to just deal with what happens. PHP is still a foreign beast to slay.
Anyway, the usual disclaimers while I’m still employed by my overlords: All the writing contained on this site are independent of my employer. I do not speak for them, and in fact, I barely speak for myself at times, so feel free to jump in and correct me or discuss something with me. I promise it wont be a reflection of my employer. Really. Honest. They barely know this exists. Besides, I mean common, how heavily trafficked can this site get for someone to actually think I have any remote possibility of representing my employer. That’s a stretch. So if you’re one to stretch that far, I don’t think I can help you, or stop you… so you’re on your own. Much like me.
Enjoy.
