The Pediatric Preoperative Fasting Guidelines are a set of handout materials meant to be given to parents prior to thier child’s surgery or procedure. They are based on current (as of August 2014) ASA / SPA NPO guideline recommendations and are meant to comply to the specifications of the pediatric anesthesiology department at the hospital for which they were developed.
These handouts are provided as a public service, not as a means of replacement for medical advice from a pediatric anesthesiologist. These are generalized guidelines and may not reflect the needs of a patient with special needs. Please feel free to use this as reference material, but not as a means of sole medical information for pediatric preoperative feeding. Always consult your pediatric anesthesiologist for proper medical intruction regarding your child’s situation.
